A trip to DeRidder with its historical and recreational value sets the
area apart as a year round vacation spot. Outstanding events such as the
four Wind Pow - Pow, Gem and Mineral Show, Louisiana Doll Festival,
Rodeos, Trade Days and Camp-N-Jam Sessions are
scheduled throughtout the year for fun-filled family entertainment.
Laid back lifestyle, southern cooking, clean air are just a few of the
attributes that are offered to visitors.
A description of the area would be that of southern small town attributes
like low cost-of-living, low cost recreational opportunities, mild
climate, high quality-of-life, available land and low housing cost and low
crime, all in one package.
Beauregard Parish is a favorite with military retirees with warm climate,
low home prices and quality living. Because of the convenience to Fort
Polk and its amenities, families enjoy making retirement plans to stay in
the area. Just a short drive takes you to either Houston or the Gulf of
Mexico.

Wallace Retreat Center lets everyone enjoy water recreational
opportunities. North of Merryville is an oasis for birding in the
Boise-Vernon Wildlife Management Area where one can discover native plant
life such as the yellow pitcher plant. Outdoor enthusiast will find an
abundance of wildlife such as white tail deer, turkey, quail, an
occasional alligator and endangered species like the red
cockaded woodpecker. Access to the Sabine River, western border of
Louisiana, is convenient by a free public boat ramp.
History of the Parish is preserved in numerous sites on the NATIONAL
REGISTER OF HISTORIC PLACES. Beauregard Museum, with memorabilia about our
early 1900's sawmill town and railroad heritage, along with the Lois
Loftin Doll Museum are housed in the Old Kansas City Southern railroad
depot. Downtown DeRidder, a National Historic District provides a grand
place for antiquing and specialty shopping, from Fenton glass to quilting
supplies.

Conrad Albrizio's fresco, "Rural Free Delivery." Additional National
Registry standouts are the old First Methodist Church sanctuary and the
first WWII USO. Other parish National Register stuctures include the
Beauregard Parish Training Structures School on MLK Drive, Dry Creek
School on LA. 113, First Street School on West First Street and Burks Log
