Donnie and Nicole

MEL visited the LSU, Rosepine Research Station. Visitors caught a glimpse of the World Wide Web on MEL's computers. One Web Site they enjoyed was their own LSU Agricultural page. Donnie Hailey, the Research Stations Farm Supervisor, has been with the research station for 30 years. His duties include seeing to the care of the cattle, and their health, feeding, moving from pasture to pasture, and taking care of their medications. Nicole Crawford the Stations Farm Specialist I is an all round farm girl. She builds fences, delivers calves and builds barns. They enjoyed the use of MEL and the new Technology.

Edwin and Alex

On April 17th 1999, MEL enjoyed the day at K.R. Hanchey Elemenatary School's Spring Carnival. Edwin Barrett, shows his son Alex how to use the keyboard on one of MEL's laptops. Thanks, K.R., for inviting us to this fun event.

Edwin and Alex

All MEL's computers were full so little Alex had to sit and wait his turn once again. ("I knew I should of never of went to see that clown") :-(

Jessie and Alex

As the day ended Jessie Barrett and Alex stood beside MEL with Instructor Stormie for one last picture at the Spring Carnival.

Dry Creek

MEL was a regular at Dry Creek Encampment this summer. This shot is from the Girls in Action Camp.

As Vicki Reeves (not pictured) gave the lesson on Internet safety, Britney Martin and Stormie Barrett showed the girls how to use the computers and helped them locate interesting sites.

All the girls loved MEL and the computers, they enjoyed the Veggie Tale web site as well as many other safe sites for children. As you can see from our two smiling faces here, technology on wheels was a huge success. MEL also attended the Boys' RA camp and two camps for pre-teens.

This year Dry Creek added a session for foster children. Many who attended were brothers & sisters living in different foster homes, sometimes miles apart. Camp gave them time to spend time togather. On MEL, they learned to use E-Mail so they could keep in touch with each other. With Internet access available at rural library branches, many of the children may be able to reach their brothers and sisters this way.

MEL will be joining the Senior Citizen's camp the last week of September. Plans are underway for MEL to go back to camp next summer.

Image Here Stormie looks back to make sure that her nephew, Chris Barrett, is still keeping up.
Image Here John Morris looks back over his shoulder to make sure that MEL'S walking unit is still together. We would like to thank everyone for being in the parade exspecially all the children for walking the whole route. It would not of been as much fun with out them. MEL will also be parked at the fair ground and Internet ready for all to enjoy.
MEL October 11th, 1999, MEL, Stormie Barrett, Vicki Reeves and John Morris, traveled down to Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge for the New Millenniun Technology Summit. Where MEL was the new wave of the future.
Image Amoung the many visitors on MEL that day, Gordon Davidson and Thomas Reagan from the Department of Elderly Affairs sign MEL'S Autogragh Book and takes a look a MEL'S laptops.
