Most computers today are internet ready. Since Windows 98SE all PC &
Macs OSX 10.0 or newer have the software that is needed to connect to the
Internet. For Dail Up Services you will need to make sure your computer
has a modem. The modem will need to be attached to a working telephone line.
If you are calling from a number that begins with:
463, 462, 328, 460, 825 and you are calling the DeRidder modem line there
are no long distance fees. If you are calling one of the Merryville modem
lines and your number begins with: 462, 463, 460 and 825 there are no
long distance fees. If you are calling from a number that begins with 725
and are calling the South Beauregard modem lines there will be no long
distance fees.
Once you have filled out the paper work for your Electronic Access,

An icon should appear on your desk that will say Library. Double click
on the Library icon, enter your username and password then click on the
connect button.
If you can't find the Library icon on your desk and you are using
Windows 98 or 98SE, you will need to click on My Computer, then Dailup
Networking, when this window opens right click the icon Library or My
Connection, pick the option to "make shortcut on desk top". Now you will
have a icon on your desk top. You may double click, add your username and
password and click connect.
If your operating system is Windows XP click on the start botton in the
lower left hand corner of your desk top. Scroll up to Programs, then
Accessories, next Communications, next Network Connections. Right click on
library under Dail-up. Click on create a shortcut. A message box may
appear saying, ( Windows cannot create a shortcut here - Do you want the

Generally speaking, unless the error number is 691 - Username /
Password, the best resolution is to simply recreate the connection.
Go into Dialup Networking
Right click on Netspace, Mozilla or SeaMonkey and click delete.
Close all of your windows down until you are at the main desktop and run
the Internet Connection Wizard. Once you have recreated
the connection, attempt to connect again through dialup networking.
Special Note for error 691;
If you have to retype the username or password because of a 691 error
message, clear the box, hit the backspace key 3 times in the empty
username or password box before starting to type the username or
password. This seems to clear a gap that may have developed to the left
of the first character. Some times you have to do the username box also.
If your going to use Internet Explore you can go to the start menu
tool bar and look under programs for Internet Explorer, it is a standard
program with Windows. For Mozilla, SeaMonkey or Netscape first
look on our desk top for a icon or next look under the start
menu under programs. If you have not found it by now, please put
back in the Cd into your CD Rom drive. The cd will open and you will
see a Mozille
One of many things can be going on when a web page won't display. Make
sure you have typed the web address correctly. The web page you are trying
to get to could be down for updates or could be no longer in service. The
page could be one that is filtered through the Library's filtering system.
Your broswer could be out dated and you may need to update it.
